Don't do Tokyo like a tourist. Comment "map" to receive my Tokyo Google map.
I lived in this city for 8 years, and while everyone else is getting lost in the crowds, this is the refined, high-low route I take to see the absolute best of Tokyo in a single day.
📍 The Morning Flow: Start at TeamLab Borderless. It’s far more central than the old spot. Then, walk past Tokyo Tower, still the most nostalgic silhouette in the skyline.
🛍️ Aoyama Hidden Gems: Skip the big labels. Go to Sou Sou for jikatabi (split-toe shoes) and 10mois Aoyama if you have a little one.
🍱 The Tonkatsu King: Lunch is at my favorite katsu spot. It’s housed in a converted 1920s bathhouse and is the gold standard for Tonkatsu. They are famous for their Kurobuta (Black Pork), it’s so soft you can cut it with a chopstick.
🎨 The Design Route: Walk through Cat Street and look up at the Kaleidoscope entrance at Tokyu Plaza. Then, visit a hidden studio to learn the art of furoshiki, it’s a beautiful, sustainable Japanese tradition.
☕️ Harajuku Icons: Get a custom 3D latte, then walk the iconic Takeshita Street. It’s chaotic, but it’s a Tokyo rite of passage you can't skip.
⛩️ The Spiritual Core: Enter Meiji Jingu. Most people just take a photo of the Sake Barrels, but few realize the sacred history behind them. Deep in the garden is Kiyomasa's Well, a legendary "power spot." Legend says if you use a photo of the well as your phone background, it wards off bad luck and brings fortune (just make sure you visit during the day!).
🍣 The Grand Finale: Dinner at my go-to sushi omakase place in Gotanda. This is the ultimate "insider" find. The quality is high-end Edomae, but the price is unbeatable: $55 for a 16-course Omakase, including drinks.
I’ve spent years finding the spots that make Tokyo feel like home. All of these and 300+ more are pinned on my Tokyo Google Map.
