What do you get when you take a maple sugar chimney cake cone, maple butter, maple gelato, maple syrup and a maple cookie? 🍁 🍦 This heavenly Vermont treat known as the Maple Madness Cone - only available at one unique bakery in Vermont!
👣 If you’ve walked Main Street in Middlebury, Vermont recently, you likely passed by @chimchimneybakerymidd - but what in the world are they making inside?
🍁 The bakery and cafe is baking chimney cakes, also known as Kurtoskalacs, a sweet bread that originated in Eastern Europe in the 1700s. They’re made by wrapping a strip of sweet dough around a wooden baking spit and cooking it rotisserie style. They are hollow inside and meant for filling; they resemble a chimney as heat rises from the hollow center and, hence, got their name!
🍦 The cones themselves, which almost resemble a thicker funnel cake in my opinion, come in a variety of flavors: cinnamon, Oreo, graham cracker, maple sugar and caramelized sugar. There are no creeemees here, but instead gelato in a few flavors: peanut butter, chocolate, cookies and cream, cake batter, etc. Add toppings from peanut butter cups to sprinkle to gummy worms and maple coated nuts. You can even add hot caramel or chocolate sauce!
🌟 There are a handful of cone concoctions are on the menu and you can even get a trio or three minis as a dessert flight! Right now, three are the mini celebration, mini Oreo and mini apple pineapple cones.
🍴 Sweets aren’t the only thing on the menu. You can also get savory cones for lunch or dinner - like a meatball marinara come, pulled pork cone or chicken Alfredo and pasta cone!
🥤 The bakery also makes Italian sodas, lemonade, iced tea, chai, and coffee of course.
🕰️ The bakery is open Thursdays to Sundays from 12-7pm and 5pm on Sundays.
